Short staff or baton becomes one of the demanding techniques for martial artist in most of the world. Despite knife , baton has been accepted by most of the martial artist. Because of the rapid growth the applications from the techniques adapted by some style to keep up phase of the popularity. 

Silat Seni Gayong has this baton techniques in their syllabus. It is originally the art of the style and it was categories in "Seni Simbat". In Gayong there are short and long staff particularly and also an additionally short baton known as "cota". This cota is much more shorter than the normal short baton. The size of "cota' is between the palm and the elbow and the length should not be above it. There are also many varieties of baton been applied in Silat Seni Gayong.

Baton - The Movement

In Silat Seni Gayong baton are performed with basics movement. The movement are taught how to countering an attack and to do an attacking. The movement are taught from one angle of position until the position of the 4 angle of the wind. All this application comes with locking , striking , counter locking and mastering the footwork. Nevertheless the baton techniques inclusive a jumping or rolling techniques  be apply while the baton is still been hold and sometimes a striking were made during the movements.

The way of holding the baton in Silat Seni Gayong is by holding it one quarter from the edge. This method can generate more energy to the baton when applying a strike and the balance of the baton can be apply with various kinds of techniques. When performing a strike a Gayong practitioners will used all his arm in order to delivered a strong impact to the target because in the philosophy of silat is to finish the fight as soonest as it can. There is no fooling around and showing artistic movements especially with weapons and an aggressor with weapons. Chances comes once and the chance should be taken to survive without a mistake.

Therefore the techniques in Silat Seni Gayong is direct and fast and intercept any attacking before they reach you. This philosophies has been in the art since ancient days. Only it was not exposed to the world due to the culture of the Malays, as time change everything's and now been shared all over the world.

Silat Seni gayong is an ancient art and something that ancient is like a nail that has been kept long time and rusty. A rusty material if it was thrust into us will be poisonous , dangerous and will harm us and we need an aid for it. so does the art of Silat Seni Gayong an ancient art that should be taking note on.
