After many training we decided to carry out the initiation ceremony for the students. For the new students they have to initiate in “perlimau tapak” and for the students whom had carry out the initiation before they have to be ‘perlimau seni”. In Silat Seni Gayong every students had to undergo this ceremony to be ascertained as Gayong practitioners. “Perlimau tapak” for the men and “perlimau seni” for the women as we call it, is a ceremony accepting officially students to the Silat Seni Gayong disciple. In these traditional ceremony, the provided equipment such as lime, flower, salt, tamarind, sintuk, bananas, needle and  many more. All the equipment is symbolic of the ceremony.

The initiation ceremony had been practised hundreds of years ago and was passed to generation of Silat Seni Gayong.I still remember the story by the late founder Dato Meor Abdul Rahman on this initiation. It’s a story of a female tiger given birth to tiger cubs. For the female tiger after giving birth she would move away a bit from the birth ground. This habit was conducted to identify which of the cubs are male and female. Who ever got the first feeding is the female cubs and for the male cubs it always the last to get feed, after all the female cubs is full. The story of this female tiger is a symbolic for the new Silat Seni Gayong practitioners where a special privilege was given to women students in the initiation ceremony. They do not have to carry out the “perlimau tapak “ like the men ,they automatically eligible for the “perlimau seni”,which are the next level of the initiation ceremony.
