Adat - What Went Wrong?



Walking the street while wondering things surrounding  Gayong community around the world. I did noticed something that really interesting happening. The Gayong communities is represent with many criteria of individual and with different thinking, ideas and opinion. Sometimes it is good for the development of the art and sometimes it gives negative suggestion which if not making a deep thought will bring a calamities within the communities.

There comes adat-istiadat in Silat Seni Gayong, which has been neglected and sometimes mislead by some, due to not really understand what it is in reality or fact. Following, this so called guide and rules is to educate the community of Gayong to be in a great order. It was like a book of law. But as usual without the full knowledge we intent to put remarks or comments that might mislead the communities.

The adat-istiadat in Silat Seni Gayong comprise of many subject. It is educating the community to be behave accordingly and respecting each others. Sometimes we over used the manner and putting a trade mark that this is correct and that is wrong. A questions here..Are we really have the full knowledge of it? If we said we do..why we make an evolution for what has been practice since. Are we better than the founder?  Do we have the knowledge of doing so? Do we have the right to say of what we are doing? There are so many questions in our thought that to be translate or waiting for an answer.

We are talking about adat-istiadat of Silat Seni Gayong which was not been opposed before during the founder was still around. Which we should do so in order for us to get the correct answer for all of adat behaviour. What went wrong? We felt afraid? Which we shouldn't.

Common evolutions we can found this days can be seen in adat perlimau tapak. Why is this happening? There are many type of doing pertaining this matters. Some just used water and green lemon without others material. Some left out few material especially "bertih","kemenyan". Others maybe evaluate in different forms. A questions what went wrong again? And we said we preserved and take adat,adap or whatever it is as a role in our Gayong communities. It is a sorrow to say that we don't.

Just a point to ponder as said by the founder,"Barangsiapa yang tidak menjalani adat-istiadat perlimau tapak Silat Seni Gayong, ia tidak boleh diiktirafkan sebagai murid Gayong dan sama sekali tidak sah mengaku dirinya ahli Gayong", Dato Meor Abdul Rahman. Let us take a minute to think deeply about that statement. If we do according to our evolution without preserving as per guidelines and teaching from the founder pertaining to this matter, does the act that we are doing valid with that statement? And we have a gut to claim that we perform the well said to be preserved adat-istiadat. If we thought it is yes than move on with whatever the believing and if not we must return back to our original way. We make our own choice. And as a view if we said about adat,adap and everything related and we don't act as per the guidance and teaching of the founder than we cannot consider we are steeping on that path because we don't have the knowledge and we can't say that we understand well.

As a conclusion let sit and really think deeply on all aspects of any corner of adat-istiadat,adap and related to find solution and hoping there will be follow accordingly as per the footstep of guidance and teaching of our beloved founder. Until then if we still in evolution we don't have the right to say that we are following the same passage. Al Fatihah.

The Complete Art



The exchanging of ideas and opinion is normal behavior of mankind. Recently I met a brothers of my respected and humbly friend. We were discussing about his family love of martial arts. He told me that he is crazy about training. He was trained in Karate and at one time he make a ran in the desert at 2pm afternoon. We just imaging as what we called crazy in the art he learned and looking for an answer of what he received during his days. He told me also that he cannot sleep thinking of the art and he felt uncomfortably , feeling missing something's in his finding. Until one day he was introduced to another style of Karate and he found out there is the difference in it. One of the different is that the techniques of take down, because on his previous style which was Karate also they do not have these techniques. On wards he was open to an idea that one martial arts is not enough for a practitioners to understand the way of the warrior and he felt that each martial arts compliments each others in term of knowledge. As a conclusion he closed with a remark that we need a true teacher as a guidance. A good point for us to ponder.

As a Malay we are lucky because in our art Silat Seni Gayong is a package system of the martial arts. We can considered that we almost have everything and should be proud of it that the art is an ancient art. It means in other words we are the developer of these art and a complete art of a warrior. We have takedown , striking , grappling etc and we should take these opportunities to preserved our lovely art rather than looking for other art as an alternative or as an additional. We should go deeply in the art and seeking truly knowledge from true masters because it was a one way centre. Where else other people need to passed through rough time for gaining the complete art. As I remembered it was said by the great founder that , the art of Silat Seni Gayong is the mother of martial arts. This evidence of conversation I had with my beloved brother  friends making another stamp or endorsement of what has been said by the founder of Silat Seni Gayong is true.

Let us begin our journey without stopping in this beloved art and making sure of the long-lasting of what has been delivered by generations. There for please keep up the good phase in preserving this ancient art and feel proud of it without forgetting that we will always be remain as human no matters where we are. I am making a stand here based on my experienced teaching and sharing with many masters from different background and upon knowledgeable discussion , Silat Seni Gayong remaining as one of  the complete art of self defense and a truly an art of the warriors. For the Malay's , please take note that we are a nation that has to be proud of what we have and a great nation with many mysteries to be dig out for our future generations remembrance and to live with it.

Silat Seni Gayong Netherlands



Sudah lama juga menunggu saat pengumuman dilaksanakan.Pada tanggal 29 Jun 2014 berkat Ramadhan pertama 1435 bermula era baru Silat Seni Gayong Netherlands.Dalam suasana yang tenang Silat Seni Gayong diumumkan secara rasmi sebagai satu badan yang wujud dinegara itu.Sebelum ini kewujudan gelanggang Gayong semenjak 2012 hanyalah secara tertutup.Melalui perisytiharan ini Silat Seni Gayong akan secara drastiknya memulai sessi tahun seterusnya bergerak dengan lebih laju dan maju.InsyaAllah.

Kalau dulu sekitar 2012 ia dimulai dengan bergelanggang disatu pekan kecil yang bernama Geldrop. Satu pekan yang berhampiran dengan bandar Eindhoven yang  boleh berbasikal sahaja. Berkat kesabaran, Gayong akan menambah gelanggangnya disessi akan datang dan sejurusnya selepas peristiharan tersebut satu gelanggang Gayong akan dibuka di bandar Roermond dan disini ia akan menjadi sebagai pusat untuk mengerakkan Silat Seni Gayong di bumi Belanda ini.

Melalui perancangan yang telah digariskan bagi menambah tenaga pengajar, satu bentuk latihan yang agak padat akan dilaksanakan.Diharapkan dengan ini ia akan menguatkan lagi barisan kepimpnan Silat Seni Gayong disini.

Mendapat sokongan dari Dewan Sesepuh Belanda dan NPSB [Persekutuan Penchak Silat Netherlands} menjadi dorongan kemajuan Gayong disini. Begitu juga dengan sokongan dari PSMN {Persekutuan Silat Melayu Netherlands} serta sokongan dari Perguruan Silat Satria Pusaka menyuntikkan semangat berGayong di bumi Belanda ini.

Tidak lupa juga sokongan dan doa dari semua warga Silat Seni Gayong sampai wujudnya Silat Seni Gayong Netherlands dengan rasminya.

Siapakah Yang Memiliki Ilmu Gayong ? sambungan bahagian #5



Misteri "se"yang dicari disusuli,tetapi sebelum itu ia perlu menyusuli hutan belantara pula. Meredah 7 teluk,7 gunung, 7 gua yang merangkumi 7 semuanya bergerak kearah dua hujung tandok. Mencari gunung berembun agar dinaikkan martabat langkah hulubalangnya. Pemuda misteri bermisai melintang menunggunya dikaki gunung berembun bersama puteri bagi menyampaikan amanat langkahnya.Perjalanan bukanlah satu yang mudah,jika sebelumnya ramai saudara seGayongnya telah kecundang dan ada yang telah menjadi pembesar dinegeri naungan sendiri. Demi mencari rahsia misteri "se" diteruskan langkahnya itu.

Setelah berpenat tubuh sampailah ia digunung berembun dan diringi peralatan yang memang menjadi peradaban Silat Seni Gayong, diperlengkapkan langkah perseniannya.Derusan kelajuan desiran angin begitu jugalah ketajaman panchainderanya melayani langkah dan ketangkasannya.Sepi desiran suasana disirami hembusan embun dan bayu amat nyaman dan menambah kerohanian. Segala gerak gerinya diperhatikan pemuda berkumis melenting bersama awak-awaknya.Tanpa disedarinya selesai sudah ia melayari langkah itu.

Menuruni ia dari gunung membawa sekelumit rahsia pergunungan kembali kepada rakyat jelata.Kalau sebelum ini riuh rendah dengan saudaranya ,langkah seterusnya hanya segelintir yang bersamanya. Pulang ia berbakti kepada Rajanya membawa sumpah diiringi bersama. "Tak Melayu Hilang Didunia",ungkapan keramat Hulubalang tua Melayu menjadi amanat kelangsungan penyambungnya.

Melalui jalan panjang itu kelihatan saudara-saudara Gayongnya mengemudi alam berGayong ini dengan pelbagai titiannya. Sebahagiannya merasakan itulah ianya manakala sebahagiannya pula merasakan akulah tuan punya dan pelbagai lagi rasa yang dilalui saudara-saudaranya itu.Hanya dilihat gelagat mereka sebagai air yang berlalu.

Perjalanannya diteruskan mencari "se" yang menunggu dipintu kendi. Timbul pertanyaan dalam diri dengan pelbagai misteri atas nikmat yang dilihat dan dialaminya.Dalam perjalanannya itu dihujani dengan sambutan yang meriah ibarat ia adalah tetamu yang amat istimewa.Pulang ia hanya untuk berbakti kepada Raja Melayu.Diangkat kedua tangannya sebagai tanda hormat akan ketuanan Melayu itu.Nescaya diangkatnya tanda ini pada yang bukan bergelar Raja Melayu maka tidak layaklah lagi ia memegangnya. Gugurlah ia dalam peradaban yang sudah terjalin dan diatur ribuan tahun.

"Se" yang masih menjadi misteri terus dijejaki dari hujung kehujung kedua tandok.Terasa akan ada aura kesaktiannya itu tetapi dimanakah bersemayamnya ia.

Malay Curve Knife - Kerambit Part 2



This short writing is an additional information on my previous article about Malay Curve Knife, Kerambit. In this issue we will disclose some of Kerambit correct method that has been practiced since Firstly we are going to share the art of holding correctly these ancient weapon. The design of a Kerambit is such, a holder with a ring and a small curve blade. It was designed with a handle ring for the purpose of having a strong hold to the palm when applying the strike. It is different from other Malay weapons which have a different way of handling and a different way of applications although the weapons looks similarity in design from the naked eyes. Holding a Kerambit tight and accordingly within the palm is such ,due to the weapon technical criteria. Taking an example of the tiger claws itself ,the curve, the sharpness and the venomous, the unseen. The strike of Kerambit is fatal and it is not just a small cut but it is a massive cut to the correct point of the body. To apply this method you need to have correct way of handling to generate great force to the strike. For that purpose the correct holding of the Kerambit plays an important role. It is not just a matter of striking but is really a strike to the finish. Kerambit is not a tool of games but it is a weapons of mass destruction. Many has made mistake in handling Kerambit as a weapon. They intent to twist and turn the ring of the Kerambit like in a western movies when handling a pistol. These manner is totally wrong and for artistic sake it might be accepted. But in the view of silat it is far from actual art of the weapon itself.

Holding correctly the Kerambit will create to the way the hand moves for making a strike. The strike applies with the elbow like a mechanical machine moving around as rounded millstone. To the right and left moving to range from a position of equal. It ripping the point of striking and it is not cutting as what it was often shown. Utilized the back of the blade is not a correct way of striking method. It will cut because the blade is sharp but it is not the art correct way. Same goes to the slashing circling the blade to the joint or artery whether using the inside blade or otherwise. In silat, weapons is not for making a wound but the used of any weapons is to finish as rapid as it can with a cut . There are no second chance whether it is "killed or to be killed". With known Malay word " amok", and it means business, the act of the weapon is such a way, brutal. As you can observe Malay is a great nation with a very high polite mannered but in terms of defending their dignity ,honor and their great empire their method of self defense is needed and very different from others. Once it was the great Malay empire of Langkasuka, Merong Maha Wangsa, Srivijaya,Melaka etc and no doubt that the self defense needed to preserved the empire. The archipelago situation during that era make the Malay aware of a needed  such a weapons that is destructive. Kerambit is one of the many weapons of the Malay used mostly by the Malay woman to protect themselves from hooligans, pirates etc. It was kept in a hair bun and used when is necessary. If a woman is utilizing the Kerambit that means the handling of the Kerambit is not  complicated. It must be easy and effective because woman used it for protection. The Kerambit used by woman also must not be seen as hidden in the hair bun. All this criteria explaining that it must not be seen and it will deliver a massive ripping with an easy going techniques of applications. If it is only for wounded it would not be a weapon to be feared.

In handling Kerambit we need to understand the philosophy of silat depends on what style. In Silat Seni Gayong the concept might be different and might be similar or the same with others. The most significant in handling Kerambit striking,is the way we bring the blade to the point of strike. The targeted area must be cleared and easy access and vulnerable. There would not be enough time playing when countering with hooligans especially by women. The main objective is to create feared in the mind when Kerambit is used. It is like when we confront with a tiger ,it create fear in our mind and sometimes the story of the beast is fair enough to make us shivering and goose bump. The person who used Kerambit really understand this position and is not simply been used as per liking. If without that understanding it can hurts the user. The weapon will be used to countering attack the user by a person who have the knowledge of the Kerambit. Last and not least Kerambit is an art of the Malay Warrior and the entire Malay nation and it is a kind of weapons feared among the communities and only an expert in Malay silat has the knowledge of disarm those kind of weapon.

May this short write up will make readers understanding more about the weapon of Kerambit and the heritage of it. Kerambit is from the Malays and only they have the true knowledge of the weapons.
